The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the think−aloud activities on 1st graders‘ inferential abilities to story texts. For this purpose, two classes of 1st graders were selected from B elementary school in Seoul. The experimental group was treated with think−aloud teaching−learning activities for 8 weeks, two hours a week from October, 2007. As a results, the experimental group's inferential ability was improved more than that of the comparative group who had not been treated with think−aloud teaching−learning activities. The sub−element of the inference ability, bridging inference and elaborative inference, cross each other in results. The experimental group showed a significant improvement in that but this compared with comparative group.In conclusion, although there are some limitations to generalizing the results of this study, the teaching−learning activities of Korean language reading class applied with think−aloud make the beginning step of cultivating the inferential ability of 1st graders of elementary school to story texts.
