A wireless ad-hoc network is a dynamically reconfigurable network composed by wireless devices without any infrastructures or centralized management systems. Since wireless devices have limited radio propagation ranges, many applications use the multicasting for query or data dissemination. In wireless ad-hoc network, the stability of the network might be decreased by a large number of packets, thus it is important to reduce the number of multicast packets. In this paper, we propose a novel direction-based clustering method that can reduce the number of multicast packets effectively. In the proposed method, the multicast receivers are clustered hierarchically based on their direction from the multicast server. This hierarchical organization is used for the multicasting path. By experiments, we evaluate the performance of the proposed method compared with theconventional method.
