This study dealt with the design and implementation of instruction materials based on the web based teaching and learning design model using Linux environment and the evaluation of academic achievement in the subject of "Internet Usage" in middle school. The developed instruction material in this paper could student to learn about basic concepts of internet system and network environment such as the necessity of Internet Protocol address, domain name service, web browser, connection and close of Internet and so on through practicing in the LINUX environment. In addition, the adaption of visual interaction between students and instruction material provided the efficiency of the self-study. Especially, our instruction material was composed of the basic Linux commands suitable for middle school students, hence, it had feature, which enabled student to study by himself. The instruction materials for practice were applied to the real middle school classes. Results showed that academic achievements of students in the subject of "Internet usage" were improved. Our instruction materials were helpful for students and teachers to learn and teach the principles of information and communication technology effectively.
