This paper deals with the structural character of the Korean New Religions (Donghak & Jeungsan-gyo) from the viewpoint of Self -cultivation. These two New Religions share many similarities. First of all the founder of both religions had the confucian preunderstanding by studying the confucian scriptures. They had the same viewpoint on the problem of confucianism, that its Self-cultivation became weak. At that time there were a conflict between east and west. It could be called “the conflict of world views.” They wanted solve this trouble by em -phasizing the Self-cultivation: ‘sushimjeongki’(守心正氣) and ‘ilshim’(一心). Their Self-cultivations are characterized by the great em -phasizing of religious experience. But for the modern people their religious expressions is relatively difficult to understand easily, because their frame of representation originated from the old tradition. Specially for the young people it is so hard to comprehend the terminologies and concepts that are written in chinese classical characters. For both News religions it is a problem awaiting solution.
