The influx of people of diverse nationalities since 1990 has recently changed Korean societal form into a multi-cultural one. The influx of foreigners has taken place in various ways but the most prominent part consists of female married immigrants. As the formation of a multi-cultural society based on immigration via marriage becomes more widespread, the number of children from these families is consistently increasing.Recently, bilingual education is highlighted as children learn languages of countries of their mothers as immigrants by marriage for emotional development and communication in multi-cultural families. Unlike general bilingual education based on major foreign languages to achieve practical gains through acquisition of a command of a useful foreign language, the bilingual education for children from multi-cultural families has the greatest aim to secure emotional bonds with their mothers and to gain communication skills based on them.In order to provide a basic material on bilingual education in a multi-cultural society, this study aimed to conduct a needs analysis on immigrants by marriage as stakeholder of education and to provide results for discussion.96 samples including 71 immigrants from Vietnam and 25 from China took part in the questionnaire survey and the questionnaire contents were largely divided into three parts. First, a question was given to find whether children had ever learned their mothers' languages, which was followed by detailed questions on experiences, education period and frequency as well as methods of education. The second part was to question whether the subjects wanted to provide bilingual education to their children and had them describe reasons for wanting or not wanting to provide bilingual education. Finally, the samples were asked to provide multiple answers as to their wishes and hopes in the event of bilingual education. The author has summed up the results by language and presented them as basic materials for the future bilingual education.
