Comparison of Play Themes of the Children in Play Therapy: Focused on the Children with Trauma and Stressor Related Disorder, Anxiety Disorder and Neurodevelopmental Disorder
This study was to investigate the differences of play themes in play therapy process on forty–four children with the traits of Trauma–and Stressor–Related Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, and Neurodevelopmental Disorders. The play themes in the play therapy process were analyzed with BETPT(Benedict’s Expended Themes in Play Therapy). The result of the study is as follows. First, the most frequent play themes from Sixty–eight kinds of play themes were Mastery, Aggression, Nurturing, Constancy, Game in the group of children with Trauma and Stressor Related Disorders, Mastery, Game, Nurturing, Boundary setting, Aggression in the group of children with Anxiety Disorders, and Mastery, Game, Aggression, Boundary setting in the group of children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders. Second, it showed that the significant differences on the themes of Powerful figure overcoming weaker figure, Bridge building and Escape Game in the analysis of three groups of the children with Trauma and Stressor Related Disorder, Anxiety Disorder and Neurodevelopmental Disorder. It has the significant that this study provide grasping the play therapy process objectively and understanding the characteristics of play themes on the main issues of children through analyzing play themes using BETPT as a tool in this study.
