This research was intended to suggest ways of introducing a DIY-type student-directed curriculum applicable to general high schools, based on an analysis of the demands of the educational field and the implementation status of such a curriculum in the field. That is, this research aimed to come up with feasible measures of enhancing students’ right to select their own courses of study in a credit system, proposing student achievement standards based the credit system as a long-term task. The results of this research suggest personalized curriculum implementation in schools (intra-and inter-school), communities (commissioned education out of school and education utilizing educational resources out of school), and online. The research findings conclude that the implementation of a student-directed curriculum would depend on updating the school administration system, such as the current academic year system, a student assessment system and method of recording student assessment results, the university entrance system, teacher qualification and allocation criteria, and the establishment of integrated environments of learning management and analysis systems, among other factors
