Candida tropicalis(C. tropicalis) were isolated from milk with bovine mastitis in the fields and their characteristics and antigenicity were investigated. The pathologic changes of the mice that were inoculated the C. tropicalis into the teat cannals and the abdominal cavity were investigated. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The infection rate of bovine mastitis by yeast-like fungi was 5.3%, and the infection rate of C. tropicalis was 25% of the yeast-like fungi. 2. The C. tropicalis isolated from the fields showed less degradation than the standard C. tropicalis(ATCC 35431 and IFO 0585) in the glycerol. In the cellobiose, the C. tropicalis did not showed the consistant degradation. 3. In the test of an antimicotic drug sensitivity, C. tropicalis isolated from the fields were the highest to nystatin(86.7%), but they were the lowest to fluocytosine(6.8%). 4. In the immunological reaction, The C. tropicalis isolated from the fields has 4 kinds of the agglutinins(No.1, No.4, No.5 and No.6). While 6 kinds of the agglutinins(No.8, No.9, No.11, No.13, No.13b and No.34) were not included. 5. The molecular weights of specific antigenic protein to the C. tropiealis were 20Kd and 53Kd, while the molecular weights of comparative group(ATCC 35431) were 20Kd and 42Kd. 6. The more C. tropicalis were inoculated into the abdominal cavity of the mice, the less the red blood cell(RBC) and the hemoglobin showed(inoculation levels: 1×10^(4)~1×10^(7)/ml). The white blood cell(WBC), total protein, cholesterol, phosphorus, aspartate aminotransferase(AST) and alanine aminotransferase(ALT) in the serum of the mice were increased when the number of the C. tropicalis were increased. 7. The necrosis, polymorphorneutrophils, congestion and hemorrhage in the mammary glands of the mice were shown within 24 hours after inoculation of the C. tropicalis. The abscess in the mammary glands of the mice began to occur from 2 days after inoculation and were getting severer than the begining. The alveolar walls of mammary gland were thickened from 2 days after inoculation and was replaced gradually with connective tissues. C. tropicalis was found in the tissues of mammary gland on the 7th day after inoculation.
