Purposes of this study are understanding characteristics of collective ostracizing by looking into preceding literature, analyzing psychological causes of it and analyzing factors of family, school and society that affects the characteristics and the causes of ostracizing. Results of this study are as follows. Collective ostracizing is a continuous behavior and the assaulter usually shows conformity with the propensity of her or her group. Female students are usually shunned mentally but male students are mostly ostracized physically. And a large portion of ostracizing is done with curse words. This tells that teenagers are considerably exposed to linguistic violence. It is revealed that students, who have been ostracized more, have assaulted others more. In reverse, students, who have assaulted more, have been victimized more. This fact indicates that experience of being victimized is likely to result in violent socialization. Students, who assault others, tend to justify their behavior by shifting the blame on to the victims. When ostracized, youth usually take care of it by themselves or talk the matter with their friends, which means that they are not being provided with practical help to resolve the problem. Ostracizing stems from factors of family, school and society. It could be said that ostracizing occurs from complicate combination of the above factors. Factors of family that induce ostracizing are lack of personal relation experience due to trends toward the nuclear family, over-protection by parents, lack of basic moral education, etc. Factors of family that invite juvenile problems are rejective, violent, do-as-you-please and inconsistent attitude of parents while bringing them up. Factors of school education that affect ostracizing are classes and schools of which sizes became bigger than before, knowledge-centered cramming system of education, undemocratic management of school, insufficient condition to get rid of stress, lack of teachers' expertise in counseling, overheated competition to enter the university and so on. Factors of society that arouse ostracizing are violent characteristics of mass media, collectivism in culture, lack of human-respect, overturn of standard values and so forth. To resolve the ostracizing problems, the required conditions are restoring of family's original functions and shifting education's basic frame focused on the university entrance exam, so as to cultivate good personality. Various precautionary programs of collective ostracizing should be developed and carried out to help students obtain communication skills and skills to form personal relationship. In school, self-governing system managed by students needs to be activated and open communication system should be established between teachers and students to detect ostracizing in its early stages. Extended program deployment by experienced counselors also needs to provide counseling for students in schools in order to resolve ostracizing. Performing their own duties, school, family and society should deal with the ostracizing problems together by establishing a mutual cooperation system.
