Considering the current situation that most students in Korea spend their time mainly being involved in doing school activities, the way the students behave themselves in schools have a lot of influence on their development of the personalities as well as the rest of the lives for good.
The exclusion from peer groups, starting with elementary schools through middle schools and up to high schools, poses serious problems, especially in elementary schools. Recently, there has been carried newspaper articles about excluded children who were bullied so severly that the victimized children could not help committing suicide. Some parents are shocked and make themselves so oversensitive to the newly prevalent "WangDda" phenomena, "exclusion", put in more plain English that they go so far as to sign up for new insurance called Wang Dda. This social phenomena have been brought up to the head and a lot of research and studies have been conducted but they are not enough.
This comparative study was conducted on four groups: classified as bulling(B) / victimized(V) / bulling & victimized at once (BV) / and 4 neither bulling nor victimized(N). The purpose is to compare the difference among the four groups to what degree the groups respectively feel under life stress and have health symptoms.
The number of the study subjects was 703, which consist of 4th, 5th, and 6th grades in an elementary school located in Bucheon city. The method used was to fill in a questionnaire. The collected data were computerized on the base of the processing program SPSS WIN 8.0. The processing put out Percentage, average and standard deviation. According to the characteristics of variables, the data were analyzed through the T-test or F-test. In case of the significant difference by the standard of significance, p<.05 , the data were post-tested through the Duncan's Multiple Range.
The result of the study is as follows.
1. According to the highest degree that the four groups(B, V, BV ,N) feel under life stress, they are put in such order as BV, V, B and N, accounted for respectively 35.6%(250 persons), 16.5%(116 persons), 16.2%(114 persons), and 31.7%(223 persons). It shows that the bulling group(B) feel under a lot more life stress than any other one ; the group neither bulling nor victimized(N) feel the least. Generally speaking, it shows that children are relatively in less life stress but in detail, the most marked article on the list of the questionnaire was :'My parents think high of me and expect a lot'. Divided into specified parts, the life stress is for family problems, physical development problems, peer group relationship and school problems in a highly ranked order. The reason why students should feel under life stress out of families is attributed to the nuclear family system and high expectations by their parents and also over-indulgence.
2. According to the seriousness of the health symptoms that students have, the four groups are put in such order as BV, V, B, and N. The articles related to health symptoms are : not sleep well; have a headache; be worried about and feel nervous in the most marked order. It shows that despite the normal condition in a mental and physical manner, the students are so much affected with the stress that they have tendency easily to respond to uneasiness, anxiety and unstableness.
3. According to the difference among the four groups whose afflicting tendency is varied, they are put in such order as BV, V, B, and N. As a result, BV(the bulling and victimized group) have higher tendency to afflict other groups than only B(the bulling group) and also have higher tendency to be afflicted by other groups than only V(the victimized group). It shows that the possibility which BV may continue to spread within the groups is high. Held in mind the negative influence. It is suggested that more studies and research in many a aspect should be approached.
4. According to the correlation between the life stress and the health symptoms, it turns out to be medium degree. It shows that the more life stress the students feel under, the less health symptoms they have.
