Effect of stress relief annealing on the mechanical properties of 0.70%C-0.040%V microalloyed steel fracture split connecting rod원문보기

Lately, researchers have been developing and applying the high carbon microalloyed fracture splitting connecting rod, while omitting the mechanical cutting and processing which requires the fatigue strength equal to the medium carbon microalloyed steel as well as the costly fracturing and reassembling of the cap. In general, post-forging stress relief annealing would be omitted for the parts made of microalloyed steel, but in case of fracture split connecting rod, stress relief annealing is applied in order to reduce the fracture deformation quality deviations caused by the forging residual stress during cap fracturing and prevent the size variations caused by tiny deformations during use. This study aims at analyzing the post-forging variations of the mechanical properties of the 0.70%C-0.040%V high carbon microalloyed steel fracture splitting connecting rod at the temperature levels of 20℃, 200℃, 400℃, 600℃ and 700℃ and thereby, determining the optimal stress-relief annealing temperature. As a result, no significant micro-structural change caused by the stress relief annealing was observed. However, the mechanical properties, hardness and impact value began to decrease at the temperature of 600℃ and rapidly at the temperature of 700℃. The fracture surface of the impact test specimen was smoothest at the temperature of 20℃ and 400℃, but was severely flexed at the temperature of 600℃ and 700℃. Based on the above results of the test, it is conceived that 400℃ would be the most optimal stress-relief annealing temperature, since the smoothest fracture surface was observed with no micro-structure change and mechanical properties deteriorated at this temperature level.
