Effects of different rehabilitative exercises on body composition, bone mineral density, and isokinetic function in elderly with osteoarthritis원문보기

The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the effects of two different rehabilitative exercises modes, which in land and in aquatic therapy on body composition, bone mineral density, and isokinetic functions in the 38 older women with knee degenerative arthritis. For the purpose, the subjects of this study were separated by three groups, who the first group was the rehabilitative exercises group in land, the second group was the rehabilitative exercises group in swimming pool, and the last group was the non-rehabilitative exercises group. The two therapeutic groups of the inspection have been trained for 12 weeks. The rehabilitation exercise therapy for land-group was made up of warm-up, work-out , and cool-down. The warm-up including stretching was performed every ten minutes for the prevention of injuries which could occur during the main exercise and quick recovery of the used muscle. The work-out included cycling and isometric exercise. Cycling was performed for about 15 minutes using the ergometer at the intensity of 60% VO2max. Isometric exercise was performed 10 seconds' contraction - 10 seconds' relaxing method of quadriceps muscles using Cybex 6000 rehabilitation machine. After the work-out, the cool-down was performed by stretching and cryotherapy for 10 minutes respectively. And the rehabilitation exercise therapy for aquatic-group was made up of warm-up(10min). work-out(40min). and cool-down(10min). All the measured data were represented by mean(M) and standard deviation(SD) using SPSS package(version 10.0). The statistical techniques for data analysis of inspection were to analyze the differences among groups and times(pre & post exercise) by two way(3×2) repeated measured ANOVA. And then I performed Scheffe post-hoc method for investigating exactly the differences between groups. The 5% level of significance was used as the critical level for acceptance of hypotheses for the study. The results of all the Studies and inspections are as followed: At first, the variables of body composition were significantly different to body weight(F = 8.860, P = 0.001) and muscle mass(F=9.302, P=0.001 between groups and F=6.392, P=0.016 within groups). At second, the variables of bone mineral density were significantly different to total BMD(F=3.783, P= 0.033). T-score(F =4.287, P = 0.022), trunk's BMD(F = 7.518, P=0.002), rib's BMD(F=9.557, P=0.000), and pelvis's BMD(F=3.648, P=0.036) between groups and times. At last, the variables of isokinetic muscular contraction were significantly different to right flexor(F=5.103, P=0.011), right extensor, left extensor at 60°/s, and right flexor(F=6.009, P=0.006) at 180°/s, and then right flexor(F=5.358, P=0.009), left flexor, left extensor at 240 /s between groups and times. This results demonstrated that the two rehabilitation exercise therapies in this study decreased in body weight and increased in muscle in older patients with the degenerative arthritis. Also, this study demonstrated that the two rehabilitation exercise therapies improved in bone mineral density and in muscular function. As results of these conclusions, this study have shown that if the older women with knee degenerative arthritis performed exercise therapy, which in land or in swimming pool, they must be improved in variables of body system.
