This study investigates the influence of industrial structure of the city on the change of urban hierarchy. In detail, frist, types of the industrial structures in Korea city are identified such as competition, specialization and diversity. In detail, frist, a value greater than one for the competition variable indicates that the industry is more competitive in this city than in other parts of Korea. Second, a value greater than one for the specialization variable means that this industry is specialized in this city. Third, the diversity variable is measured by the city's other industries' share of total city employment. Second, the population ranking of the cities is examined and then the cites are classified by using a cluster analysis. The results are as follows: ①In 1981, cities classifies as the first group have been ranked 8∼11 . Cities classifies as the second group have been ranked 12∼17. Cities classifies as the third group have been ranked 18∼36. Cities classifies as fourth group have been ranked 37∼50. ②In 1991, cities classifies as the first group have been ranked 8∼13. Cities classifies as the second group have been ranked 14∼18. Cities classifies as the third group have been ranked 19∼31. Cities classifies as fourth group have been ranked 32∼73. ③In 2000, cities classifies as the first group have been ranked 8∼11. Cities classifies as the second group have been ranked 12∼17. Cities classifies as the third group have been ranked 18∼41. Cities classifies as fourth group have been ranked 42∼79. Third, a multiplex regression analysis is used to examine the relationship between the population ranking and the industrial structure. The results are as follows ①cities classifies as the first group have been ranked up in population in relation to competition development of manufacturing sector. ②Conversely, the second group have been ranked down in population in relation to competition development of manufacturing sector. The second group have been ranked up in population in, relation to specialization development of manufacturing sector ③cities classifies as the third group have been ranked up in population in relation to specialization development service of sector. ④cities classifies as fourth group have been ranked down in population in relation to specialization development of service sector. The results of this study showes that it seemes to have significant relations between variables.
