The purpose of this study is to have the problem solving means for their maladjusted adolescents to their schools through their parents' understanding the factors of maladjustment. This understanding could be enhanced through parent group counseling, through which they will share the mind of mutual support, and realize some odd family relations of their own. With the result of the approach, a program will be made up, which can be helpfully available generally for youth counseling and for student counseling. For the effectiveness of this study, Bowen Family Therapy Theory is adapted to be used. The theory is regarded as useful and proper for parents' understanding themselves and their adolescents who are maladjusted to their school. And the theory is specifically useful in the concepts of multi- generational transmission process, enmeshment, triangles, individuality, and togetherness. The program goes on through 6 sessions. The object of it is the parents who have been requested for counseling for their adolescents who are maladjusted to their schools in youth counseling agencies or school counseling offices. The time of per session is for 2 hours, the object group is made up of 8 persons, having a professional psycho-counselor as leader. The procedure of the program is as follows. Session 1: Orientation Having the orientation the main subject, the leader explains and constructs the program. Having the opportunity for self-introduction one by one the group would be able to creat an intimate atmosphere among the members. The leader guides the members to be familiar with the feeling chart, the leader encourages the members to express one's own feelings freely all through the sessions, and leads them to be familiar with the word of emotion. Session 2: Understanding the family having an adolescent The leader guides the group to understand the characteristics of the family having an adolescent and the characteristics of the development of adolescence. Then, leads the members to take the time of sharing and understanding, as parents, the agonies and difficulties caused by the adolescents. By charting one's owen genogram, the leader leads the members try to find out the family disfunctions, and what one has acted as one's role as parent. All through 3 generations, at least, by examining from the family of origin and to each generation, the leader guides them to find out some odd family relations, including those with one's spouse, in order to know how the relations have been influenced on the present family relationship. Session 4: Understanding the Parent-Child disfunctioned relationships. The leader guides the group to examine the parent-child relationships to understand the triangular relations. And asks them to examine the family rules and some hidden family-myths or family-secrets to be able to understand their influences on the family relationships. Session 5: Understanding parent-child communication The leader guide the members to consider the desirous parent-child communication to find out the basic attitudes of listening and talking. By dong this, the leader could have them realize what is reinforcement and obstacle in communication, and to keep on parents' individualities, the leader guides them to learn and exercise the way of 'I-message'. Session 6: Bravo! my family have got a new start! In this final session, the leader has them review and give the finishing touches to what they have studied. And tell them to have new aims for their own family to start the better marching of family relations. In addition, the leader asks them to express what they newly understood from the program to their children by writing letters. And, finally, be ready th say 'good-bye' each other with the spirit of appreciation and mutual support. Now the leader brings to an end with the words of praise and encouragement to those parents who have attended all through the program sessions. This study would contribute to the realization of the fact that parents become to realize their own family pattern, that children's maladjustment to school is caused by the family relationship, and, at the same time, that we understand some reasons why many of the adolescents are maladjusted to school. These understandings form fundermentals to reform family relations and to reduce the conflicts between parents and children. That is, through the understandings the factors of the children's maladjustments to school can be reduced and, on the other hand, the understandings help adolescents to adjust themselves better to their school lives.
