The purpose of this study was to examine the effect that Korean traditional group games (Yutnori, Kite Flying, Biseokchigi) have an influence on subvariable of socio-emotional development of children and to discover to cognitive value of the traditional group games and to offer the basic teaching materials so that the traditional group games may be effectively used for the young children. For the above purpose of study, the following question' were examined : 1. What positive effects will the traditional group games have on the socio-emotional development of children? 2. What positive effects will the traditional group games have on the subvariable of socio-emotional development of children? 2-1. What positive effects will the traditional group games have on the subvariable of socio-emotional development which is in the inner control of children? 2-2. What positive effects will the traditional group games have on the subvariable of socio-emotional development shich interacts with colleagues? 2-3. What positive effects will the traditional group games have on the subvariable of socio-emotional development which is in the sence of security of kindergarten children? 2-4. What positive effects will the tradional group games have on the subvariable of socio-emotional development which is in the achivement motivation? 2-5. What positive effects will the traditional group games have on the subvariable of socio-emotional development which is in curiosity The object of the study was a child of five enrolled in a kindergarten in Daegu. Thirty boys and thirty girls were selected for the study. The children were equally divided into two groups: thirty children for the experimental group and thirty children for the controlled group. As research tools, this dissertation is employed. The Socio-Eimotional Development Rating Scale, developed Korean Institute for Research in the Behvioral Science(1978) and the Korean traditional group games used in the experiment were Yutnori, Kite Flying, Biseokchigi, developed by Ministry of Education(1993). The differences between the experiment group and control group, before and after the event has been T-tested to verify the research problem. The results of this study were as follows. 1. The traditional group games have been shown as having a positive influence on the socio-emotional development(t=7.72, df=58, P<.001). 2. The traditional group games have been shown as having a significant influence on the inner control which is a subfactor of socio-emotional development(t=3.04, df=58, P<.01). 3. The traditional group games have been shown as having a positive influence on the interaction with colleagues which is a subfactor of socio-emotional development(t=4.18, df=58, P<.001). 4. The traditional group games have been shown as having a positive influence on the sence of security of kindergarden children which is a subfactor of socio-emotional development(t=9.12, df=58, P<.001). 5. The traditional group games have been shown as having a positive influence on the achivement motivation which is a subfactor of socio-emotional development(t=6.78, df=58, P<.001). 6. The traditional group games have been shown as having a positive influence on the curiosity which is a subfactor of socio-emotional development(t=7.50, df=58, P<.001).
