When the wall jet flows over a circular cylinder, large amount of surrounding air is entrained into the jet and the static pressure distribution across the wall jet is arranged in such a way that the centrifugal force makes balance with the static pressure field. As a result, the main flow attaches to the wall and the separation of a wall jet delays far downstream. This is so called the coanda effect. If two wall jets are spouted from two sides of a circular cylinder symmetrically, they collide each other behind the cylinder. In this region the static pressure and the turbulent intensity are very high. After colliding in this way, they form a single two dimensional developing jet. We call this new type of jet as coanda jet. In this study, mean velocity profile, turbulent component intensity, static pressure distribution and auto-spectrum are measured in order to investigate turbulent structure in the coanda jet with the hot-wire anemometer and the pitot-tubes. In our series of experiments, the separation points of the wall jet on the surface of a cylinder exist at about 70 degree from the nozzle exit, and they are independent of the nozzle size (1-5 mm) and nozzle exit velocity (29-80 m/sec) in the range of our experiments. Increased flow rate due to the flow entrainment is 0.8 times the initial flow rate. In comparison with a simple two dimensional free jet, the coanda jet develops faster, and the spreading rate of half velocity jet width is about 1.5 times higher.
