본 연구를 수행하기 위해서 chronopotentiometry (CP), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), a.c. impedance, energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), X-ray Diffraction(XRD) 측정 장비를 사용하였다.

The Li ion battery is highly promising as a rechargeable battery due to its remarkable features such as the high discharging voltage of near 4 V, the excellent specific energy density. Lithium ion batteries are becoming the power sources of choice for modern consumer electronics devices. The mainstream of the research in the Li ion battery has focused on the development of electrode active materials and electrolytes. Carbon anode is widely used in lithium ion batteries. Theoretical capacity of carbon anode has 372 mAh/g in LiC6 structure and has lower power density than Li metal which has 3600 mAh/g. Lithium storage capacities of metals such as Al, Ag, Sn, Pb, Sb, Bi, etc have better than ones of carbonaceous materials. Recently Li-Metal alloy has been investigated as anode of lithium-ion battery due to their high capacity. Metals of ⅢB and ⅣB group were studied as inorganic anode material. From results of investigations, Tin-base material was showed the best performance. However, Tin as an anode was faced with volume expansion of two or three times during the process of alloying with Li. This volume expansion caused the cracking or crumbling of electrode. The cracking or crumbling decreases conductivity and increases internal resistance of electrode. Consequently the electrode shows poor cycleability. In order to overcome this faults, tin-based alloy electrodes of slurry-coating structure onto a current collector have been investigated. The performance of alloy electrodes can be improved significantly if the active alloy is finely dispersed with a less active or inactive component in a composite matrix. This concept is effect of buffer matrix to suppress or compensate for the expansion of the reactants, while still preserving the electrical pathway. This studies is to synthesize crystal multiphase SnO2-Co3O4 compound used Co3O4 as inactive matrix, SnO2 as active matrix under high temperature. As a result of it, the charge/discharge capacity and cycle performance of multiphase SnO2-Co3O4 anode was better than SnO2:Co3O4 anode and SnO2 anode in EC:DEC co-solvent system. The multiphase SnO2-Co3O4 anode had a good surface morphology and SEI film resistance after cycling test when compared with the non-multiphase anode. From comparing particle morphology and electrochemical performance, the roles of inactive matrix can be summarized into two. One is to prevent the Sn particles growth when Li2O and Sn are produced about 0.8V. The other is to buffer the volume change during LixSn alloy-dealloy reaction. From the results of this studies, we can see that charge/discharge capacity of SnO2 material prepared by sol-gel method was more higher than commercially available one owing to the small particle size. However, as charge/discharge cycles are repeated, cracking can be seen by SEM. In the cases of The multiphase SnO2-Co3O4 anode materials, there cannot be seen any cracks or pulverizations. Especially, SnO2-Co2O3 anode materials have small and homogeneous particle distributions, and so they show the most excellent size effect and buffering matrix effect against volume change.
