Geon-chil as Joongpo-tae is generally produced by making the afterbirth by piling up hemp cloth repeatedly and in a method of removing the archetype by molding it in a given thickness. And it is more difficult to express than other materials used, but is characterized by being stronger and lighter than the quality of other molding material compared to thickness or volume molded, and open for plastic expression such as a curved surface. It is known to be traced back to Chu in the Age of the Warring States, and a Geon-chil molding began to be produced from D.ngjin. In the times of Han, it was called 'Hyupju'(hemp cloth attached in many folds) in the text carved in lacquered ware. It began to be named 'Geon-chil' after its technique was introduced in Japan at the Tang dynasty. The Yuan dynasty more developed a method of molding Hyupju, and also called Geon-chil 'Junhwan' and 'Talhwal'. The Geon-chil expressed in this way was differently called 'Hyupjutae', 'Junhwan', 'Talhwal', 'Talsa', 'Joongpo-tae', and 'Taltae' depending on ages and regions. On the one hand, our country's Geon-chil molding is traced back to the existent relics which are guessed to have been at the end of the Goryeo period and at the beginning of the Joseon dynasty. At present, the literature on the producing technique has sporadically been introduced in China and Japan and is being used for plasticity by Chinese and Japanese artists. Since the positive material for it is not shared, we have secured only the material in the form of general description and have difficulty reproducing it. In particular, it is difficult to secure the standard of its production because of the institutional problem according to apprentice-style succession. This thesis, hereupon, tried to explore the present situation of the Geon-chil molded images of the existent relics in our country, measure the number of folds and intensities for appropriate hemp cloths by producing an experimental sample for Geon-chil and provide the basic material for producing Geon-chil hereby. Experimental methods included the different combination ratios of Ott and glue, Ott and lime(earth powder), respectively in order to measure tensile intensity according to load and flection intensity, and the spread by piling up hemp cloth from once to seven times. The materials used in the experiment were hemp and ramie cloths as the most universal materials used at the time of work. The experimental sample was made by applying earth powder as lime and flour as glue. The experiment showed that hemp cloth increased tensile force as the quantity of lacquering increased and also increased flection intensity as the quantity of calcium oxide increased. Experimenting ramie cloth showed that it indicated relatively high numerical values in tensile and flection intensities compared to hemp cloth on the whole. In particular, glue Ott and lime Ott showed a maximum value of tensile force and flection intensity at equal combination ratios. The result from the above experiment enabled me to differently guess the appropriate ratio of Ott, glue and lime according to the foundation used, and predict the fitness of the plastic use according to the kinds of hemp cloth.
