The purpose of this study was to propose a basic components of the acquisition policy for Korean National Assemblymen's personal records to be collected more systematically. For this study, 1 domestic and 3 foreign cases were compared and analyzed with the relevant authority agencies, and interview and questionnaire survey were conducted with total of 13 archivists. In the case of acquisition agencies for National Assemblymen's personal records, 'Albert Gore Research Center' of Middle Tennessee State University, 'State Archives of Florida' of Florida, ‘The Parliamentary' of U.K. and Korea's 'National Assembly Memorial Hall' were selected. Each institution's acquisition policy were analyzed with a focus on the basic components of Ham's acquisition policy. Collection analysis was done through the prospective archive lists provided online. Survey on the assessment of the acquisition policy was carried out through National Assembly Memorial Hall, National Archives of Korea, president's archivists using the interview and the e-mai questionnaires. Basic components of the acquisition policy for Korean National Assemblymen's personal records based on this research outcome can be proposed as follows: First, 'the statement of repository and purpose' has to be codified so that it could help prospective donors and archivists decide whether their records correspond to the institutions. Secondly, 'delineating the scope focus of collecting in the field of acquisition' needs to define each field in suggesting the agencies' field of acquisition and needs to suggest a detailed geographical are or time period about each field for clear cooperation and acquisition activity of similar acquisition institutions. Thirdly, 'acquisition guidelines: priorities and limitations' should help archivists' sorting out; set acquisition priorities, level of acquisition activity and conditions of acceptance for mediation on opinions about cooperation agencies and acquisited data; and specify content on the exclusions of acquisition institutions which they don't deal with. Fourthly, in terms of 'cooperation with other institutions', it's a way in which it attempts to prevent overlap and breakup between similar institutions for the acquisition of National Assemblymen's personal records, hence, corresponding nature and boundary of the cooperation needs to be set. Lastly, in terms of ‘de-accessioning’, the collection needs to be constantly interpreted and evaluated to see whether it corresponds to the archive's acquisition plan, hence, disposal guidelines following these activities are necessary. This could act as a safety measure for unexpected situations that might arise during acquisitions in the future.
