Fossil fuels have the largest share of utility power generation in the Korea, accounting for approximately 62.7% of all utility-produced electricity. Therefore, understanding the environmental implications of producing electricity from fossil fuel is an important component of any plan to reduce totals emissions and resource consumption. A life cycle assessment(LCA) on the production of electricity from fossil fuels was performed in order to examine the environmental aspects of current thermal power plant systems. In this study, the result of abiotic resource depletion, global warming, acidification, eutrophication, fossil fuel consumption, regulated air emissions are examined to analyze the environmental impacts of fossil fuel power generation system. As a result from the LCA study, power generation process is presented key issue of each power generation system. Also environmental parameters such as CO2 and SO2 were found out to be the significant issue parameters. According to the study, its was shown that the significant environmental aspects were largely related with the extraction and manufacturing of raw materials.
