The effect of perceptual difference on child depression between mother and child, and of mother's depression, on child's problem behavior원문보기
(Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale: ...

This study was designed to examine the influence of perceptual difference on child depression between mother and child, and of mother’s depression on child’s problem behavior. Total of 225 children were assessed by Youth Self Report (YSR) and Children’s Depression Inventory (CDI). 225 mothers were assessed by Child Behavior Checklist 6-18 (CBCL 6-18) and Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale (CES-D). For data analysis, gender difference was verified by t-test, and correlation analysis was carried out in order to examine the perceptual difference between mother and child. Additionally, simple regression analysis was performed concerning; first, whether the perceptual difference on child depression affect child’s problem behavior, and second, effect of mother’s depression on mother and child’s perceptual difference and child’s problem behavior. The result showed that there was no significant difference between genders. Still, there was a perceptual difference between mother and child on child depression. Perceptual difference between mother and child had significant influence on child's problem behavior, and mother’s depression had a meaningful correlation with child’s problem behavior. However, mother’s depression did not affect the perceptual difference on child depression. Such results indicate the importance to examine the perceptual difference on child depression and its relative severity. Also, it implies the necessity to carefully consider the perception of the informant who gives information on child’s depression and problem behavior. Discussion is provided for the limitations and possible suggestions for further studies.
