This study was conducted at Seoul Grand Park area to accumulate the basic data for restoration of the 426 natural monument species, Reeves’ turtle (Maunemys revesii Chen & Lue 2010), endangered species II, designated by Ministry of Environment in Korea from 2009 to 2011. The purpose of this study was to know how to conserve and breed the Reeves’ turtle. Another purpose is to know its behaviour area and its habitat utilizing pattern when I compared at the exotic turtle, Trachemys scripta elegans (Wied-Neuwied, 1839), by using tracking system. Therefore, this study investigated the Reeves turtle’s life cycles including its behaviour, food, and habitat to find out its inhabiting environments. For the caring of captive breeding individuals, I built the four kind of artificial breeding spaces (hatching room, immature individuals care room, mature individuals care room, wintering care room) at the Seoul Zoo of Seoul Grand Park. I recorded their behavior characteristic of the captive breeding individuals in the artificial breeding spaces by three times of a day during the study periods. From this study, I found that temperature and humidity were related to hatching periods of Reeves' turtles. Their optimum hatching temperature was 28~31℃, optimum humidity was 80~90%. Immature individuals always needed to have the shade and sunny spaces for heliotherapy. Adult individuals also preferred the heliotherapy areas such as woodland and stone area. All developing stages of the turtle individuals needed the wintering space, and they were wintering at under 5℃ temperature environment. After I attached the RFID Tags & Implanters and RFID / PIT Readers on their body for tracking the behaviour area and habitat utilizing pattern in the natural pond, I moved the adult captive breeding individuals to the natural pond in Seoul zoo. This study shows that exotic turtle has wider home range and habitat utilizing pattern than Reeves' turtle, so that there was competitive relation between Reeves' turtle and exotic turtle in the domain of limited heliotherapy area, food source and wintering area, etc. This study is first step for successful species restoration. So I need to study for more information of wintering behaviors, competitive relation with other species in nature habitat, food resource and etc.
