This study was conducted to build the predictive model influencing on suicidal ideation of elderly men living alone. Based on Bronfenbrenner(1967) and Kemp(1998)’s ecological system theory and previous studies consideration related to suicidal ideation of elderly men living alone, the conceptual foundation and the hypothetical model were made up. And it included self esteem, social isolation, individual coping, subjective health status, family cohesion, social support, ageism, social activity as exogenous variables and included hopelessness, depression, and suicidal ideation as endogenous variables. As for the subject, 251 people suitable for the selection criteria were selected among elderly men living alone above age sixty five living in the 1 region in Gyeongnam, 3 regions in Gyeongbuk and to secure the study ethicality, the data collection was performed with the structured questionnaire after the IRB approval(GIRB-G14-Y-0003) of IRB of Gyeongsang National University. With the collected data, demographic characteristics of participants, descriptive statistics, reliability of measurements, and the correlation between variables were analyzed with SPSS WIN 20.0 and Covariance structure analysis for goodness-of-fit test of the hypothetical model and hypothesis test was conducted with AMOS 18.0. The results are as follows: 1) The goodness-of-fit test result of hypothetical model were suitable for recommended level: χ2/df=1.47, RMR=.04, GFI=.92, AGFI=.90, CFI=.95, IFI=.95, RMSEA=.04. 2) The variables(self esteem, individual coping, family cohesion, social support, social activity, depression) included in this hypothetical model explained 55% of the model of suicidal ideation. The most influential factor of suicidal ideation was self esteem, and social isolation did not have direct and indirect influence on suicidal ideation. To sum up the above results, if we promote self esteem, family cohesion, social activity, individual coping and social support tested as the final result variables in this study and develop/utilize an efficient customized suicidal prevention nursing intervention program reducing depression, social isolation, suicidal ideation of elderly men living alone would be prevented.
