The purpose of this study is not only to figure out which of those experiences that students at high school would have during a school sports day change the students into active participants of the function but also to search for educational significance which the students think that the school sports day has. In order to achieve the research goal, the study looks into the experiences of the students who join the school sports day. The study carried out its investigation using the qualitative research method. The main data in this study was gained from a total of 770 students’ reviews collected during the school sports day for two years. Of all those reviews, the raw material of the research, only the contents which had corresponded to the purpose of the study were discriminated, and the study adopted this circular research method which is to repeat analyzing and interpreting the transcribed data for several times. First, what do the students experience during the school sports day? The moment a new semester begins, the students start looking forward to the school sports day. The study observed that on the day of this function at school, the students became willing to cooperate with each other on one purpose, and as they tried to work together, supporting each other, they came to have various experiences, such as conflicts, reconciliations, harmony, achievements, pleasure, absorption, satisfaction and others. When it comes to the ceremony for their participations in the sports day as well as these group sports, a rope-jumping, a walking on notdari, a tug-of-war and another tug-of-war with tires, the students found those sports not easy to play and yet, they still did their best to fulfill their roles. In addition, as for a centipede’s feet race and a relay, those sports in which they participated as class representatives, the students inspired people attending in the function as doing their utmost for the sake of their classes. Second, which experience does change the students into the active participants? The classmates were mature enough to understand and cheer up any of their friends who felt ashamed and sad after losing, and those students who felt a sense of guilt eventually changed into even more active participants out of their appreciation for all those friends who had given the spur only but nothing else. Not only that, the students were already enjoying the sports day as it was and because of that, the students were able to have a great time during the function. What the study also found was that the students were actually having this process experience as they were changing into other selves who would try to do better with what they do, being absorbed in any of their personal abilities or features different from those of other students. Third, what educational significance does the students’ experience with the school sports day have? The study learned that the school sports day was being a chance for the students to heal themselves as they kept being exposed to anything new. With the help of this chance, the students became individuals with greater confidence who believe that they can do better at school. Add to that, those students who experienced positive emotions appeared to have grown both inside and outside after the school sports day, and that led the study to the conclusion that the school sports day is being experienced by the students as a process of growth. During the school sports day, the students improved and expanded their relationships with others which eventually helped them to enhance their sociability. The study confirmed that the school sports day was convincing the students to realize that living with others in harmony is more valuable in this society which has been emphasizing competitions only. The ultimate goal of Physical Education is to conduct whole-person education, and the study learned that this school sports day which was held as a physical event but not as a part of regular class activities was having more positive effects than other regular classes were. It was clear enough for the study to see that to the students, the school sports day is planting itself as one of the valuable cultural items which anyone could take part in with pleasure.
