The improvement in the food service industry contributed to the popularity of fast food, and westernization of tastes, convenience, pursuit of consumer culture and others are still increasing the use of fast food (Park 2008). As another version of convenience food first developed in the United States, fast food was created by these lifestyles of people in modern times that seek for convenience which is a promise of the rapid development of food industrial technologies, and Koreans call it instant food. Students in their adolescent period do not have sufficient understanding or knowledge on nutrition and health and as a consequence, they come to go through problems such as imbalance diet and others as they choose what they would like to consume only. When the students do not take a good amount of nutrients in this period of their active physical, psychological and sexual growths, their chance of being exposed to all sorts of adult diseases and chronic diseases as grown-ups increases, and that is what proves how negative effects of poor dietary life of the adolescents could continue throughout the adulthood (LEE Jong-jeong 2009). In the light of that, this study aims to offer basic materials for nutrition education which would help the adolescents to practice regular, proper dietary habits and live healthy life as adults. In order to achieve the research goal, on February 4 of 2015, the study conducted a survey on 293 male students at age of 14 to 16 who were going to a boys’ middle school in Jung-gu of Seoul as freshmen, sophomores and seniors. (The school was affiliated with Jungbu District Office of Education). Findings of the survey were analyzed, and they are presented in detail as follows. First, the students were 14.15 (years old) on average, and they were 58.30 (kg) in weight and 169.28 (cm) in height. The average BMI that had been calculated by the weight and the height turned out to be 20.24. The greatest number of the students was included in a group of normal BMI, and they were staying with parents. 38.9% of the research subjects answered that they share meals with families for more than 11 times which was the highest figure, and most of the students said that their mothers are in charge of dietary life. Of the entire 293 respondents, the greatest number of the students answered that they use fast food more than once or twice a week, and the figure presented significant differences depending on how many times the students share meals with the families. The respondents who eat with the families less than five times use fast food once or twice a week, and the figure is considered quite high (p<0.05). Second, the students look for fast food when they get hungry at private educational institutes and other places, and they come back for fast food because they love delicious tastes of the food. As for beverages that the students drink when consuming fast food, sodas appeared to be most frequently drunken. The frequency came up with significant differences depending on who is in charge of dietary life (p<0.05), and the study learned that when the mothers manage dietary life, the students consume less of the sodas. Third, in regard to health and nutrition when they choose fast food, the study noticed that the students are aware of health and nutrition relatively good enough. The result is presented with significant differences depending on how often the students share meals with the families (p<0.001), and the more often they eat with the families, the more they care about health and nutrition when choosing fast food. Fourth, in case of regular meals, statistically significant differences in understanding were made by how many times the students have meals with the families (p<0.05) and who is in charge of dietary life (p<0.001) and in terms of how often they share meals with the families, the more often they eat with the families, the more they prefer the regular meals. Fifth, when it comes to the differences in nutrition knowledge on the consumption of fast food, statistically significant differences in understanding were caused by grade (p<0.05), BMI group (p<0.05) and who is in charge of dietary life (p<0.01). The study examined the differences on a basis of grade, and the seniors appeared to have the lowest understanding as the freshmen and the sophomores were reported to have the greatest knowledge on nutrition. Focusing on the BMI groups, the study understood that the group of low weight has a higher level of nutrition knowledge than this group of overweight does and regarding who is in charge of dietary life, the students with mothers or more than two family members who would take care of dietary life have greater knowledge on nutrition than these students who handle dietary life for themselves do. Sixth, results of the analysis on fast food consumption attitudes found the attitude relatively negative. However, even though the students know how hard it is for them to digest fast food, how the food causes them inconvenience and how it works against themselves, the students still prefer fast food to organic food, and based on the result, the study learned that the students have quite twofold attitudes to fast food. Seventh, as for dietary behaviors, the students appeared to have relatively positive dietary behaviors, and the study investigated how differently the demographic features would influence dietary habits and figured out that types of family (p<0.05) and how often the students share meals with the families (p<0.01) result in statistically significant differences in understanding. The research subjects staying with only one of the parents provided the least satisfactory dietary habits, and the less they have meals with the families, the less desirable the dietary habits are. Eighth, the study reviewed correlations between nutrition knowledge with preference of fast food to general meals as well as consumption frequency with fast food consumption attitudes and dietary
