Scheelite (CaWO4) occurs as one of the main ore minerals in the two distinctive skarn zones of the Weondong polymetallic deposit, Korea; vein skarn zone (VSZ) and massive skarn zone (MSZ). On the basis of mineral assemblages determined by polarized microscope, X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern analysis, and back scattered electron (BSE) image, VSZ and MSZ can be subdivided into five types. In MSZ-1 type, scheelite occurs as a subhedral relatively large sized (1.5~3.5mm) in the long dimension, associated with phlogopite, enstatite, diopside, vesuvianite, fluorite and magnetite. In MSZ-2 type,s cheelite occurs as ana nhedral small sized (0.3~0.8mm) in the long dimension, associated with garnet, calcite, wollastonite and vesuvianite. In VSZ-1 type, scheelite occurs at altered quartz porphyry and feldspar porphyry as an anhedral relatively large sized (0.5~5mm), associated with orthoclase, quartz, fluorite, galena, pyrite and molybdenite. In VSZ-2 type, scheelite occurs along fractures of quartz porphyry as a subhedral medium sized (0.8~2.5mm), associated with quartz, K-feldspar, plagioclase, molybdenite, and fluorite. VSZ-3 type scheelite occurs in veins of garnet - clinopyroxene skarn. They grew into medium sized subhedral grains, associated with calcite, diopside, laumontite and garnets. In this study, our goal is to reveal the chemical characterization of scheelites from the different types using electron probe micro-analysis (EPMA) - wave dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (WDX) and laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(LA-ICP-MS) and to consider how the different types of scheelite can be linked to the geochemical conditions under which they were formed. MSZ-1 has higher Mo substitution ratio than MSZ-2, which means more oxidized geochemical environment. MSZ-1 and MSZ-2 show opposite LREE-HREE tendency, that can be interpreted as precipitation stage difference in one hydrothermal fluid. For VSZ, VSZ-1 is closest to pure scheelite, than VSZ-3, and VSZ-2 has broad but highest Mo substitution range. VSZ-2 show clear REE pattern and Eu anomaly difference between high and low Mo parts of scheelite, VSZ-1 and VSZ-3 have similar LREE enriched pattern, but HREE concentration is distinct difference. VSZ-1 was formed at earliest stage in VSZ, VSZ-2 and VSZ-3 is hard to interpret yet. Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) observation revealed that scheelite is not a simple compositional solid solution, but shows Mo-sulfide nano-particles inside scheelite. Weondong polymetalic deposit was formed through multi-stage skarnization, with more than three different stages of hydrothermal fluid. Fluid was mainly LREE-rich granitic hydrothermal fluid. According to Eu anomaly and W-Mo ratio, Weondong polymetalic deposit was formed mainly under oxidized geochemical condition, which vary as stage changes. Multiple flow of similar characteristic fluid give us a possibility of heat source under Weondong polymetalic deposit.
