The purpose of this study is to analyze how a variety of shoe types worn by female college students in their twenties affect the muscle activation and balanc of pelvic limb. The research subject include fifteen healthy female college students in their twenties who participated in a single-sample repeated-measurement experiment they went through a walking exercise wearing three types of shoes canvases, short boots, and walk. Before the experiment, muscle activation and balancing ability of anterior tibialis, peroneus longus, frontal gastrocnemius muscle, rectus femoris, vastus medialis, and semitendinous muscle were evaluated. The research subject walked on a treadmill at a speed of 4㎞ per hour for thirty minutes wearing each pair of shoes. In order to prevent fatigue, a resting time of 24 hours was given between each experiment. The muscle activation before and after muscle fatigue induced by walking was measured using free EMG system, while limits of stability and Romberg test were measured using BioRescue equipment for balancing ability. As for the data treatment method, MANOVA was used in order to compare the muscle activation and balancing ability of each muscle according to the shoe type.
According to the research results, muscle activation change in three groups based on shoe type showed main effects in medialis, with a statistically significant difference between walker group and canvases group.
As for balancing ability, the Romberg test results showed main effects of time in the center of gravity surface area, length, and velocity with eyes open. A significant difference between pretest and posttest was observed in the length with eyes open in boots group, surface area with eyes open in walker group, surface area, length, and velocity with eyes open in canvases group. As for the limits of stability, main effects of time were observed in left, right, front, and the combined direction. significant difference between pretest and posttest in boots group’s left, walker group’s left and right, and canvases group’s left direction.
Hence, the shoes female college students in their twenties different impact on the muscle activation according to each type. Considering that it affects the time difference of balancing ability before and after walking induces muscle fatigue, wearing appropriate shoes contribute to body balancing in daily walking.
