Geochemical Behavior Characteristics and Environmental Impact Assessment of Surface Sediments in Mid to Downstream of the Seomjin River원문보기

This study carried out the analyses of grain size and geochemistry from 30 stations of Seomjin river, considering sedimentary environments and geochemical behaviors of sediments in the river. The sediments are -0.78 to 1..92∅ of very coarse to medium sand, 0.36 to 2.32∅ of sorting, -0.49 to 0.23 of skewness, and 0.59 to 1.38 of kurtosis in textural parameters. Average geochemical contents of the surface sediments are mostly low, minor elements are more variable than major ones for the content variation. In correlation among each metal in the sediments, Al is mutually correlative to Fe, Mg, Ti, P, Mn, Ba, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Sc, V, Y, Zn, and Pb. And, Ca and P are mutually correlative to elements of Sr and K, ones of Fe, Mg, Co, Cr, Ni, Sc, V, Y, Zn, Pb, and Cd, too in each case. It is considered that these correlations are influenced by surrounding geology, sandy sediments, carbonates, and shell fragments. With respects of environmental evaluation on the study area, EF values of K, Ba, Li, Zr and Pb are enriched, showing over 1 in average. Igeo values of Mg, P, Cr, Zr, and Cu are over 1, assigned to ‘moderately polluted’ state. Therefore, above results indicate that the geology around the study area mainly influenced to enrichments and condensing of the elements, not important roles of environmental intervening.
