In this thesis, a study about forest experience for children was conducted at a forest kindergarten in a city. Therefore, purpose and method of previous studies regarding forest kindergarten and data were reorganized. Also, investigation of two points, use patterns and user satisfaction, of several different cities such as Seoul, Gwang-ju, Jeon-ju, was performed to understand difference among those cities and necessary supplementation.
Survey was made based on the previous studies regarding forest kindergarten, while 2 forest kindergartens for each cities from 27 forest kindergartens in Seoul, 6 in Gwang-ju, 2 in Jeon-ju, were chosen for satisfaction comparison and analysis.
The survey was performed from 4th nov. 2016 to 13rd, each two times on weekdays and on weekends by asking visitors who have children and have ever went to forest kindergartens, or by visiting the kindergartens. The result of the survey is as follow.
1. The survey shows that both interest of children about forest kindergartens, and that of guardian were normally great. Also, most respondents are aware of necessities that natural learning environment in a forest, and programs for it need to be built.
2. More people answered that they have never been exposed to information about forest kindergartens. On the other hand, the others who have ever been exposed to such information answered that they were aware of those information through the broadcast media mostly, internet communities, and on everyone's tongue. Most respondents answered that they have never visited forest kindergarten, mostly because they lack of information, and because of safety concerns and traffic inconvenience. This results show that several experience about learning information regarding forest kindergarten can affect latent visitors.
3. Purpose for visiting forest kindergartens was mostly for experience of natural environment for children, and family picnic, education, and rest. It shows that most visitors of forest kindergartens accidently found and stoped by those kindergartens while they had picnic to park near those places without any information or purpose.
4. Regarding day of the week, most respondents answered that they would like to visit the forest kindergartens on weekends or holyday, and some prefer to visit the places anytime irrespective of days, while some like to do on weekdays. Regarding season, most respondents are willing to visit the forest kindergartens in spring, and then people like to visit, in fall, all the year over, in summer, and in winter in order.
5. Regarding transportation, people most likely to use their own car, while bus and walk were chosen next. More people consider that the forest kindergartens are not accessible. This shows that first characteristic of forest kindergartens that those places were located in cities while belonging to mountain or giant park, and second characteristic that people use those places with their children, make it difficult to use public transportation.
6. Regarding to use satisfaction, satisfaction of Kids Forest Experience Center in Seoul was relatively greater than other cities. Especially, satisfaction of learning effect and components, total satisfaction including programs, in the basics, and cleanliness in the administrative control, were greater than Gwang-ju and Jeon-ju.
Considering difference of satisfaction elements, it is more important to build forest kindergartens in parks, to readjust the division of place, and to apply to programs for every spaces than to simply create those kindergartens in mountains.
7. To construct specialized forest kindergartens, it is crucial to build water space which various organisms could live in. Likewise, planning wild plants is necessary factor to assign specialized characteristic to the forest kindergartens for development of the spaces.
8. Regarding external aspects which will apply to the forest kindergartens, experience facilities became the most important facility, and then service area, entertainment facilities, and amenities were followed. Regarding planting, chaplains were more preferred than shrubs, broadleaf trees are more preferred than coniferous trees, and deciduous tress are more preferred than evergreen trees. Additionally, trees which are equipped with flowers, fruits, and perfume are more likely to get preferred.
Regarding inner aspects for program adoption, natural learning is mostly preferred, and then sensitivity and ecology education, sensory education, creativity education, physical education were followed. People answered that creating forest kindergarten should be top of the priority, and communication and relationship, health care and cure, familiarity, growth should follow after that.
To sum up, it can affect effective promotion and an increase in utility rate when visitors get information about forest kindergartens through internet communities, and it is necessary to create more parking lots for visitors since most of them would like to visit the kindergartens with their individual cars. Lastly, proper planting should be planned to improve construction of the forest kindergartens and effectiveness of operating plans since considering major hours of use of visitors and their tendency.
