Effects of occupational therapist task-oriented interventions on the upper extremity functions of hemiplegia patients원문보기

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to apply feedback appliances, occupational therapist intervention tasks, and occupational therapist simple exercise to patients with hemiplegia due to stroke and investigate the effects of those interventions on the functional improvement of the patient upper extremity movements. Method: Forty five patients with hemiplegia due to stroke having hypofunction in their upper extremities were enrolled in this study. Forward stretching motions that activate the triceps muscle of the arm and sideward stretching motions that activate the deltoid muscle were set as common motions and changes after training were observed. Result: The functional movements of the upper extremities were improved in all three group; the greatest improvement of upper extremity functions could be identified in the Occupational therapist intervention task performance training group with direct interventions by therapists(p<.05). Conclusion: Although feedback appliances using robots were effective in the improvement of hemiplegia patients upper extremity functions, they showed limitations in the provision of various functional movements necessary when performing tasks using the upper extremities in daily living. Task-oriented intervention therapy with firsthand intervention by occupational therapists was more effective and improved functions further in that it enabled upper extremity function related exercises that are helpful for not only upper extremity functions but also diverse task oriented designs and daily living. Keywords: Feed-back appliance, Hemiplegia, Occpational therapy intervention, Taskoriented therapy, Upper extremity function.
