The Internet of Things (IoT) is a rapidly growing emerging topic of technical, social, and economic significance. Objects are being combined with internet connectivity and powerful data analytic capabilities that promise to transform the way we work and live. At the same time, there are significant challenges that could stand in the way of realizing the potential benefits of IoT. One of them is interoperability, in a fully interoperable environment, any IoT application would be able to connect to any other application, regardless of manufacturer or technology. In practice, interoperability is more complex. Standardization is one way to address interoperability challenge, but there are also numerous IoT standards in different regions. While there are various standards in play in IoT market, interworking layer between two different platforms based on distinct standards helps to exchange information. Semantic interoperability is also in practice to make IoT systems interoperable, where registered testbed converts data based on standard ontology and send to meta-cloud. Conformance and Interoperability testing is compulsory to validate the interoperability by developing standards, Interworking layers and semantics meta-cloud services. Conformance to standards and interoperability is a major challenge of today’s applications in IoT domain. Conformance testing involves checking whether the applications conform to the standards specification so that they can interoperate with other ix conformant systems. Whereas, interoperability testing involves checking whether the implementations are interoperable with each other. Only through testing, correct information exchange among applications can be guaranteed. In this thesis, I proposed and implemented a mechanism for automatic conformance testing for the oneM2M global standard for IoT. For interworking layer approach for interoperability, I proposed an architecture for interoperability testing and developed test cases to validate the interoperability in result of wise-IoT project. Model-based testing is used to validate the semantic interoperability where I developed a test model to validate interoperability between oneM2M based testbed and Fiesta-IoT Meta-Cloud in result of Fiesta-IoT project.
