The purposes of this study are to identify the distribution and geometry of the Yeongdeok Faults, which is a branch fault of the Yangsan Fault, by detailed mapping and to interpret the deformation Characteristics and deformation history of this fault based on kinematic data and magnetic fabrics of fault gouge. The Yeongdeok Fault, which shows an extension of 40 Kilometers in total from the DEM (Digital Elevation Model) and satellite images, cuts the Triassic Yeongdeok granite, Cretaceous sedimentary rocks and volcanic rocks in the study area. Yeongdeok Fault develops into a lineament in the north of Hwacheon-ri, Yeongdeok-eup, but divides into two segments in the south of Hwacheon-ri. The western fault of the two segments shows a zigzag geometry consisting of a series of NNE- and NNW-(or NW-) striking fault and the eastern fault shows NNW striking and is joined by the Yangsan Fault at Gangu-myeon. Cheongnyangsan Formation, known as the horizontal displacement marker of the Yeongdeok Fault, is distributed around the Hwacheon-ri, Yeongdeok-eup and Ganggu-myeon, Yeongdeok-eup on the west and east side, respectively. Based on its distribution, Yeongdeok Fault shows about 8.1 dextral horizontal displacements. Yeongdeok Fault inclined to the east with an angle of more than 65° and has a fault core and damage zones of 2 to 15 m and up to 180 m in width, respectively. The fault rocks that develops in a fault core are derived from the sedimentary rocks, volcanic rocks, and granite. each fault rock shows different deformation pattern depending on the wall rocks. granite within the fault core is usually deformed into fault breccia and deformation is concentrated on the shear surface having a fault gouge within 10 cm - thick. On the other hand, sedimentary rocks within the fault core generally develop in a wide spread of delirium, showing greater width of faultcore than granite. The bedding attitudes of sedimentary rock within the fault damage zone tends to tilt with the high angle, similar to the attitudes of the main fault surface, as it close to the fault core and recover its original attitudes as it moves away from the fault core. The sense indicators within the fault indicate that the deformation due to the dextral strike-slip movement remains dominant in the Yeongdeok fault. The movement senses and relative chronologies in this study show two main events of the Yeongdeok Fault; (1) sinistral strike-slip movement under NW-SE compression at late Cretaceous, and then (2) dextral strike-slip movement under NE-SW compression between 44 and 25 Ma. The deformation history of the Yeongdeok Fault is well-concordant with the previous study of the Yangsan Fault.
