Conveyor is a device that is composed of drive-train systems, conveying devices such as belts and chains, upport columns, or support to move and store related materials including raw materials, parts, and products. In addition, it combines several unit conveyors and auxiliary equipment are used as a system. These conveyors play an important role in the production of products of small-scale workplaces such as coal mills and grain mills, and are efficient equipment that moves large amounts of material quickly. However, this is a high-risk equipment that generates an average of 530 casualties annually in industrial sites. In particular, a death accident occurred when a worker caught on a conveyor belt while inspecting a conveyor at a Taean thermal power plant in December last year. Recently, automation of production facilities using conveyors and industrial robots has been rapidly developed due to changes in the working environment, and the construction of smart factories using advanced conveyors is expected to be the core of the fourth industrial evolution. Industrial sites require technical and systematic industrial accident prevention activities to cope with changes n the working environment, and the necessity of applying functional safety of electrical and electronic systems to prevent fundamental accidents in various industries such as chemicals, nuclear power, and automobiles is being emphasized. Intensive studies and attention on the introduction of functional safety to ensure qualitative and quantitative safety are needed to prevent harmful accidents caused by machinery and to prepare the introduction of new machinery when constructing smart factories. Therefore, this study proposes a model that can analyze the functional safety level of the use stage for the conveyor system in order to prevent various accidental hazards caused by machinery and smart factory construction. Most of the previous studies on functional safety are related to the estimation of performance level at the design stage of machinery and related to the parts and parameters included in the machinery, and EN ISO 13849-1, the functional safety standard for determining the performance level at the design and manufacturing, was used. Unlike previous studies focusing on the esign and manufacturing stages of machinery to determine the performance level, this study proposed a functional safety analysis model that can verify the performance level and safety of machinery at the use stage.
