For the improvement and effective management of air quality, the proper installation and operation of air monitoring station, which is the basic data, should be a prerequisite. thus, in this study The trends and characteristics of air pollutants were identified and additional installation area were proposed using GIS. Five types(SO2, NO2, CO, O3, PM10) of air pollutants were interpolated using IDW to indicated the concentration map. Cross validation was then carried to evaluate the validity and reliability of the estimated values. The interpolation results were averaged by region through the zonal statistics and then evaluated using Natural Breaks (Jenks). Natural breaks (Jenks) are presented in nine stages using the concentration in each region. Areas included in the steps not including existing air pollution monitoring stations are suggested as additional installation areas. Areas showing more than 50% overlap were selected for each substance. Subsequently, an area with more than 50% overlap in all air pollutants was proposed as an additional installation area. The most heavily overlap areas in Pohang are Sangwon-dong, Daeheung-dong, Deoksan-dong, Yeonam-dong, Nambin-dong. The most heavily overlap areas in Gumi are Yangho-dong, Jinpyeong-dong, Otae-dong, Sagok-dong, Sinpyeong-dong. Considering the concentration and distance as well as weather characteristics and land use conditions, a more objective assessment will be made.
