  • A total of 456 males were used for histological preparations of the testes for light microscopic examination, from January 2002 to December 2003. Testicular tissues were removed from the shells, preserved in Bouinfs fixative for 24 h, and then washed with running tap water for 24 h.
  • From visual observations, males can be distingished easily by the existence of the penis (genital organ), which occurs near the tentacles. The testis is located on the surface of the digestive gland in the spiral posterior region of the shell (Fig. 1). With testicular maturation, the external color of the testis became yellowish brown.
