미국 학교도서관이 학업성취에 미치는 효과 연구에 대한 고찰

본 연구는 미국의 학교도서관 프로그램이 학생들의 학업성취에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 중 콜로라도 연구 I(l993), II (2000), 텍사스 연구 (2001), 미주리 연구 (2003), 일리노이 연구 (2005)를 분석하였다. 다섯 개 연구의 조사방법과 연구내용을 중점적으로 고찰하였다. 다섯 연구는 성적에 영향을 미치는 학교도서관, 학교 그리고 지역 사회 변수를 도출하기 위하여 공통적으로 상관관계분석, 요인분석, 다중회귀분석을 사용하였다. 모든 연구의 일관된 결론은 도서관 발전수준-직원, 장서, 예산-이 높을수록, 사서교사의 전문적 활동이 활발할수록, 그리고 정보기술의 사용이 활성화되어 있을수록 학생들의 성적이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 미국 아동들의 리터러시 향상과 학교도서관 독서 프로그램과 관련하여 NCLB 법에 관해서도 검토하였다.
