The objective of this study is to investigate indoor air quality(IAQ) levels and the seasonal difference of indoor air pollution levels of new flats in Korea. 100 units in 15 flat estates were chosen on a national scale. Measurements were accomplished by the standard method of government(ventilation(30minutes)-windows and doors closed(5 hours)-2 samplings(30minutes each)). 7 substances which are ought to be measured by law(Formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene, 1 4-dichrolobenzene, styrene) and TVOCs were analyzed by GC/MS and HPLC. The result shows that many of 100 units have indoor air pollution levels above the recommended level by government. When the measurement averages of substances are compared to the recommended level, benzene, ethyl benzene, xylene and styrene were much lower than the recommended level but formaldehyde level reached around 80% of the recommended level. The measurement result shows that there are seasonal differences of indoor air pollution. Levels of most of substances were highest in summer and lowest in winter. TVOCs level in summer was highest and lowest in spring and fall. Benzene level in spring and fall was highest and lowest in summer. The result of this study could be useful data to improve indoor air quality of flats.
