이차습원식생일지라도 장도습지는 보전생태학적 그 존재의 가치가 높게 평가되는 이유는? | 한편 이차습원식생일지라도 장도습지는 보전생태학적 그 존재의 가치가 높게 평가된다. 그 이유는 첫째, 내륙으로 부터 이격된 지리적 위치로부터 이동철새 및 난온대 식생자원의 경유서식처로서의 서식처 연결성을 높여주는 징검다리(stepping stone)이면서, 둘째 비교적 면적이 좁은 도서(島嶼)임에도 풍부한 대수층을 기반으로 하여 유지되는 습지와 습지식생의 지리적 옹달샘이며, 셋째 지역생물종의 피난처(refugee) 역할 등과 같은 야생 생물 서식공간으로서의 가치가 인정되기 때문이다. 그런데 현재의 장도습지에서는 습지생태계 관리 측면에서 크게 세 가지 위협요소가 확인되고 있다: 1) 버드나무-기장대풀군락과 이대군락의 점유 면적 확장으로 습지 지표 환경의 근본적인 수리수문 체계의 변화와 건생화(乾生化) 또는 육역화, 2) 습지 연구자 및 불특정 탐방객에 의한 답압으로부터의 지형변화, 3) 방목(특히 염소)에 의한 선택적 초식과 토양의 부영양화. |
