고려 말 복식이 화려했다는 것은 어떤 문헌에 표현되어 있는가? 고려 말은 혼돈의 시대이자 복식의 화려함이 절정에 이른시대였다.『新編고려사절요下』(Kim, 1452/2004)에서 35권을 보면 공양왕 3년(1391)에 중랑장 방사량(房士良)이 시무 11조에서 “....지금 귀천을 논할 것 없이 외국 물건을 다투어 사들여 분에 넘치는 사치에 절제가 없으니, 지금부터 사서인, 공상, 천예에게 사라능단의 의복과 금은주옥의 장식을 일절 금지시켜 사치풍속을 그치게 하고, 귀한 이와 천한 이의 구별을 엄하게 하소서.”라 하여, 14세기 말에 신분구별 없이 수입품과 금은 귀금속 장식과 비단의상을 즐기는 사치풍조가 만연했음을 알 수 있다.
