임상영양사의 전문적이고 체계적인 업무관리의 필요성이 대두됨에 따라 국제적으로 노력하고 있는것은? 미국영양사협회를 비롯한 국제영양사회는 임상영양사가 환자의 관리에 있어 보다 전문적인 영양관리를 시행할 수 있도록 마련한 절차인 영양관리과정(Nutrition Care Process, NCP)을 제시하여 업무를 표준화하도록 하였고 실제 직무 연구에서도 이를 중점적으로 반영하여 제시하고 있다(Kieselhorst 등 2005). 또한 국제적으로는 임상영양 업무에 국제 임상영양 표준용어를 사용함으로써 효율적으로 영양 관리를 할 수 있도록 권장하고 있다(Lee 2012). 미국 임상영양사의 직무에 관한 보고에서는 임상영양사의 직급이나 전담하는 질환에 따라 직무가 전문화 되어 기술되었다는 특징이 있다(Kieselhorst 등 2005; American Dietetic Association 2008). 국내에서도 임상 영양 업무의 표준화를 위해 영양관리과정(NCP)의 실무 적용 방안에 관심을 갖게 되었으나 아직까지 현장에서 수행되고 있는 임상영양 업무에 관한 구체적인 연구는 매우 제한적이다.
