유방암 환자는 의학적 치료가 종료되고 관해기에 접어드는 시기 동안 무엇을 겪나? | 삶을 위협하는 수술과 보조적 항암요법을 종료한 유방암 환자는 대체로 건강한 상태를 유지하며 암 진단 이전의 삶으로 돌아가기 위해 노력한다. 그러나 많은 유방암 환자들은 의학적 치료가 종료되고 관해기에 접어드는 시기 동안 피로, 통증, 림프부종과 같은 신체적 증상과 신체상 저하, 우울, 불확실성, 재발에 대한 두려움 등과 같은 정서적 문제 등으로 심각한 심리적 디스트레스를 경험한다[2]. 하지만 유방암 진단과 치료과정 동안 유방암 환자는 이러한 부정적인 면만을 경험하는 것이 아니라 삶에 대한 감사가 증가하고, 인생의 중요한 목표를 새롭게 설정하며, 자신의 강점을 발견하고 새로운 가능성을 타진하거나 친밀한 관계의 가치와 중요성을 인식하는 등 긍정적인 변화도 경험하는데 이를 외상 후 성장이라고 한다[2-4]. |
