비만 아동에서 불안장애는 대조군과 비교했을때 어떠한가? 특히 비만 아동에 관한 대부분의 연구는 우울감과 관련된 연구로서 우울증과 비만은 원인론적인 관계가 아니라 서로 원인과 결과로서 영향을 미치는 관계로 생각이 된다.3) 또한 비만에 이환된 청소년에서 불안장애가 대조군보다 높은 유병률을 보인다고 보고되기도 하였다.4) 국내 논문들을 살펴보면, 2005년 국민건강영양조사에 참여한 청소년(583명, 12-18세)을 대상으로 비만도 및 비만인식도가 정신건강에 어떤 영향을 미치는지를 알아보기 위한 연구에서 전반적으로 비만군은 비만이 아닌 군에 비해 스트레스가 높은 군, 우울군과 자살사고군의 비율이 높았다.
