본 연구의 목적은 현장의 사서들을 대상으로 도서관특성화 및 주제전문사서에 대한 의견을 조사함으로써, 실질적으로 도서관특성화 서비스를 담당해야 할 사서들의 업무 현황과 환경을 이해하는데 있다. 선행연구들을 기반으로 조사 도구를 개발하였으며, 전국의 공공도서관, 대학도서관, 전문도서관 사서들 대상으로 설문조사를 진행하였다. 392명의 사서가 설문에 응답하였다. 주요 결과로는 특성화 서비스에 대한 이용자의 만족도가 높은 것으로 인식하고 있었고, 특성화서비스 수행 시 가장 어려운 점은 주제에 대한 지식이 부족하다는 것이며, 특성화 서비스를 위한 도서관의 환경도 충분하지 않다고 보았다. 특성화서비스는 주제전문사서가 주도해야 하며, 주제전문사서에 대한 자격기준은 필요하며 자격제도는 국가가 관리해야 한다고 하였다.

Questionnaire were developed based on the previous studies and surveys were conducted with the librarians of public libraries, university libraries, and professional librarians across the nation. A total of 392 librarians have responded to the survey. As for the main result, the users' satisfaction with the specialization service was perceived to be high, and the most difficult matter in performing the specialization service is the lack of knowledge on the subject matter, and the library environment for the specialization service is not enough.
