돌봄과 관련하여 노년기 삶의 양상이 변화될 것이라고 할 수 있는 이유는 무엇인가? 이와 같이 노년기 단독가구 형성 추이는 독립적인 삶을 추구하고자 하는 노인들의 가치관의 변화와 맞물려서 앞으로도 계속될것으로 예견되고 있으며 이는 노년기 삶의 양상에도 변화를 가져올것으로 여겨진다. 특히, 돌봄과 관련해서도 남편을 포함한 배우자에 의한 돌봄의 증가로 이어지고 있으며 가족 돌봄자 중 배우자의 비율이 2004년 29.7%에서 2014년 37.7%로 증가한 수치[2]는 이를 잘 반영하고 있다. 이러한 부양 현실의 변화를 고려했을 때 노인의 배우자 돌봄은 노년기 삶의 한 부분으로 주목할 필요가 있으며[3], 지금까지 주부양자로 고려되지 않았던 배우자의 돌봄에 대한 심도 깊은 이해에서부터 앞으로 이들의 돌봄을 지원하기 위한 구체적인 방안 또한 모색 가능하리라 생각된다.
