월경통의 증상에는 어떠한 것들이 있는가? 월경통은 대표적 증상인 하복부통 뿐만 아니라 오심, 구토, 현훈, 설사, 피로, 두통, 초초함 등을 발생시키기도 하여 여성의 학업 혹은 업무 수행에 영향을 미칠 수 있어 삶의 질을 낮추는 원인이 되기에 사회, 경제적으로도 해결해야 할 과제라 할 수 있다4).
월경통의 강도는 어떠한 양상을 가지며, 증상의 지속 시간은 보통 어느정도인가? 월경통은 골반내 특별한 병리적 원인 없이 나타나는 원발성 월경통과 골반 내 병변으로 인한 속발성 월경통으로 나눌 수 있다5). 보통 초경 후 6~12개월 사이에 발생하며 점차 강도가 증가하다가 사춘기 이후 감소하는 경향이 있고 증상의 지속시간은 평균 48~72시간이다6). 병리학적으로 자궁 내막의 증가된 prostaglandin (PG)에 의해 자궁 긴장 및 수축력이 증가하고 이로 인해 자궁 혈류가 감소하는 것이 원인으로 알려져 있으며7) Oxytocin, Vasopressin도 월경통과 관련이 있을 것으로 보고 있다8).
