대체에너지로 신재생에너지 개발이 필요한 이유는 무엇인가? | 바이오매스를 연료로 이용하여 활용하는 바이오매스 가스화는 화석연료의 고갈문제와 온실가스 배출에 대한 환경문제로 인해 주목 받기 시작한다[1]. 2014년 전 세계 1차 에너지 공급 비중 중 석유와 석탄이 각각 31.3%,28.6%로 전체 비중 중 절반 이상을 차지하고 있으며[2] 우리나라도 마찬가지로 2015년 1차 에너지 공급량은 석탄과 석유 각각 29.7%, 28.1%로 전체의 절반 이상을 차지하고 있다[3]. 석탄과 석유의 공급량이 전체 에너지의 대부분을 차지하기 때문에 이로 인한 온실가스 중 약 80%를 차지하는 이산화탄소를 저감하기 위해 1992년 기후변화협약 (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change)이 체결되었고 이후 1997년 교토 의정서가 채택되어 온실가스 저감에 노력을 기울이고 있다. 또한 ‘2℃ 목표’로 지구의 평균 온도가 2℃ 이상 상승되지 않도록 온실가스 배출량을 줄이자는 내용이 포함되어 있는 파리협정이 2015년 체결되었다[4]. 따라서 화석연료가 아닌 자연계에서 얻을 수 있는 대체에너지로 신재생에너지 개발이 필요하다. |
