이 연구는 한인디아스포라와 관련된 연구에서 한인에 대한 용어를 분석하여, 국립중앙도서관 주제명표목표에서 관련 용어들을 조사하고, 이를 보완할 수 있는 방안을 제시하였다. 이를 위하여 먼저 KCI 등재(후보)학술지 중 디아스포라 관련 논문의 비율이 높은 3개의 학술지를 선정하여 한인과 관련된 용어에서 추출하여, 이 3개 학술지 논문에서 사용된 빈도를 조사한 다음, 한인과 관련된 용어를 사용한 논문을 직접 보고 추가 한인 관련 용어를 조사하였다. 이러한 분석을 바탕으로 국립중앙도서관 주제명표목표에서 한인 관련 주제명을 보완할 수 있는 방안으로 영문표기의 변경, 비우선어의 추가, 기존 주제명의 계층관계 변경 등을 제안하였다.
