The computer programs are developed for structure analysis, analysis plotting, member design, cost estimation, and structural drawing for frame structures as one working system. They are developed on the basis of the practical equations for member sections obtained from the analyses of economic sizes of individual structural elements. The design criteria for reinforced concrete structures are based on working stress design methods and ultimate strength methods. The first part presents the purpose, implications, and scope of this study and the methodology used for this study. The next part presents the assumptions used for estimating member section sizes of reinforced concrete structures, structural analysis of frames, member design and cost estimation for frames, analysis of economec sizes of individual elements of R.C. structures, and the methods of preparing structural drawing for R.C. structures by utilizing CAD system. The CAD system for architectural design is intended essentially for the integration of a series of interrelated work into a total system, which include structural analysis, preparation of structural drawing, architectural design, preparation of drawings for building equipments, and cost estimation with the Engineering Data Model. The integrated working system for structural analysis and preparation of structural drawings as developed in this study serves as a part of total system for architectural design. In addition, the integrated structural design system is expected to speed up the preparation of accurate construction drawings, to allow a flexible alteration in design, and to provide designers more time to devote to other creative work.
