The purpose of this paper was to examine the significance of narrative therapy, as practiced by its co-developer Michael White and his colleagues at Dulwich Centre, within the history of family therapy and to explore the implications of this approach for family therapists in Korea. In the midst of dramatic socioeconomic changes and an open competition for survival in Korean society, many family-related problems have emerged. The narrative approach-with its attunement to issues of social, historical, and social context; power; meaning; expert knowledge; and community -serves as a useful lens for viewing such problems in a context-sensitive way, making it possible for therapists to practice with a keen appreciation of the Korean cultural context.
