Objectives : The purpose of this study was to identify the degree of health promoting behavior performance, and to examine the factors influencing health promoting behavior of college women. Methods : This study subjects were 197 college women at C university in Kwang-ju. Data were collected from Nov. 5 to Dec. 10, 2000. The instruments used for this study were the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile developed by Walker et al., the self-efficacy scale developed by Sherer et aI., and the health conception scale developed by Laffrey. The data were analyzed using t-test, Pearson Correlation, Stepwise Multiple Regression with SPSS program. Results : The results of this study were as follows; 1. In the nursing students group, the average score of the health promoting behavior was 2.61. In the subcategories, the highest degree of performance was self actualization(2.96) and the lowest degree was health responsibility(1.63). In the nonnursing students group, the health promoting behavior was 2.42. In the subcategories, the highest degree of performance was interpersonal support(2.84) and the lowest degree was health responsibility (1.37). 2. In the nursing students group, the average scores were self-efficacy 3.51, health conception 4.60. In the non-nursing students group the scores were self-efficacy 3.32, health conception 4.34. 3. Health promoting behavior between self-efficacy (r=O.4124, p=O.OOOl, r=O.6134, p=O.OOOl) and health conception(r=O.3423, p=O.OOO6, r=O.3713, p=O.OOOl) were correlated positively in the nursing and non-nursing students group. 4. in the nursing students group, the main factor affecting health promoting behavior was selfefficacy(21.6%), including health conception, exercise frequency and weight status explained 37.2% of health promoting behavior. In the non-nursing students group, self-efficacy explained 35.3%, including exercise frequency and health conception explained 42.7% of health promoting behavior. Conclusions : The results of this study, we suggest that would be developed health education programs for college women, especially including self-efficacy, health conception.
